Shred-a thons

Thought some of y'all might be interested in this. I don't know anything other than what's in the post below, so if you have questions I suggest going to the website listed at the bottom.

Attorney General Roy Cooper and local sponsors are donating their time and resources to sponsor free scam jams and shred-a-thons across the state . You can learn more about identity theft and how to protect yourself at the scam jams listed below. Shred-a-thons are a perfect way to destroy old tax records, employment records or credit applications. You do NOT need to remove staples and paper clips from the documents. It usually takes about 10 minutes to dump the materials, sign a release and watch the documents shred.

If you know anyone who is interested, please pass along this information. It is a free service offered to help prevent identity theft. If you want to know about future events in a particular area, please reply with the city/county of interest. Thank you.

This Community Shred & ID Theft Awareness event is being done in conjunction with CompuTel to culminate National Consumer Protection Week. Consumers will have the option to bring paper, media and/or computer hard drives. Shred-it will destroy paper and media (tapes, floppy disks, etc.) in mobile shredding trucks. CompuTel has a large stationary shredder that can destroy computer hard drives. This event stresses the importance of securely destroying all forms of confidential information.
